Opposition moved a privilege motion against NAB director general for his controversial interview

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Friday took notice of Director General (DG) NAB Lahore Saleem Shahzad’s recent television interviews.

The NAB chief has sought a complete record of Shahzad’s interview from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) "so that action could be taken in the light of the law".

The accountability watchdog respects all the honourable members of the National Assembly, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said.

He said that the aim of summoning record of interview is to see if DG NAB made any statements against facts and in what manner it maligned the honourable lawmakers.

It may be mentioned here that DG NAB Lahore Saleem Shehzad appeared on local TV channels, where he said that the anti-corruption watchdog would file a reference against Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif by the end of this month.

NAB chief took notice of the matter after the opposition members moved a privilege motion in the National Assembly secretariat against NAB director general for his controversial interviews.

The motion said that Shahzad had given interviews to multiple news channels "with the consent" of the NAB chairman. The NAB Lahore DG "provided details of the matters that are sub-judice" and "maligned the reputation" of opposition members in the National Assembly.
